Welcome,
Please let me introduce myself. My name is Stephen Van Hecke, and I'm the Author of this Web-Site. I'm writing this Open Letter to You as one of America's College Students, and to College Students in all 50 States about an Initiative that my Web-Site is introducing. It's being introduced now that the Spring Semester is over and many of you are, or have already gone home for the summer to your HomeTowns all across America.
This Initiative simply involves America's College Students while they're home taking a few Photographs of their own HomeTown sometime during this summer . . . whenever You can, and then e-mailing them to this Web-Site.
Most of you will have come to this Site from a friend who sent it to You through one of the Social Networks . . . who got it from a friend . . . who got it from a friend . . . and so on, back to the original sender who's a Student at the University of Dayton ( Dayton, Ohio ). And, of course, her HomeTown is Dayton.
Her Photos make up the pictorial display for the City of Dayton on the Introductory Page of their "HomeTown Tribute". The Page is entitled "Our HomeTown . . . Today". You can see her Photos by clicking below on 'Visit Dayton, Ohio's "HomeTown Tribute".
Briefly, this Web-Site is all about Paying Tribute to the History and the Photographic Heritage of America's Towns. By collecting OLD Town photos from the Local Historical Society, City Hall, the Town Library, and even current and former Residents of each Town, the Web-Site is able to then preserve these old Photos ( digitally ). The Site, also, showcases with just the click of a mouse each Town's Photographic Heritage from the Past, of today, and for the future.
The Photographic Heritage for each of America's Towns, and that of your own Town not only includes just finding 'Old' Photos of your Town, it, also, means having Photos taken 'Today' ( this summer ) of your Town as it is . . . Today.
And, that's why I'm reaching out to You, and through You to some of your college friends in other Towns, and hopefully, to lots of other College Students that are home for the summer in Towns in all 50 States.
While you're home, You can participate by being the one who provides the photographs taken 'Today' ( this summer ) of your Town as it is . . . Today. Your Photos will then become the pictorial display on the Introductory Page - "Our HomeTown . . . Today" - of your Town's "HomeTown Tribute".
The Photos that You take will be viewed on this Web-Site by your Town's Residents ( and the world ) of Today, and also, those of the Future, as well - 10, 25, 50, 100 years from now. The Photos they see will be those that You took this Summer, 2011.
You will, also, be recognized for your participation with your Name, Name of your College, and the Names of your HomeTown and of your Town Mayor. You can see this "America's College Students - 'My HomeTown - Seen through my Camera' Recognition" Page by Clicking below.
