Welcome;
Please let me introduce myself. My name is Stephen Van Hecke, and I'm the Author of this Web-Site. I'm writing this Open Letter to You, and to all of America's College Students. This Web-Site is introducing a Project entitled "Students to Pupils".
You may have just clicked from the Web-Site's "My HomeTown - This Summer, 2011" Initiative page. And if so, this Introductory section will sound rather similar to that Page. And, You may find this Project - "Students to Pupils" - to be every bit as interesting as the Web-Site's summer Initiative. But, for each Student who participates in this Project, he or she will find it to be a little more challenging, but will, also, find it to be very worthwhile and very rewarding.
The 'Students' part of that title is meant for You as one of America's College Students. And, the 'Pupils' are those countless numbers of Grade School Kids throughout so much of Africa who don't have desks to sit at, but because they really want to learn, they sit in their classrooms . . . on the ground.
It's a problem that, fortunately, no Student . . . no Pupil in any of America's Towns has to face - trying to learn in a classroom while sitting on a dirt floor.
So, how could a College Student like youself - home for the summer, or a college friend of yours who has gone home to their Town for the summer, or any Student at any College in America who is home for the summer - how could You be able to do anything about Kids in Africa that don't have Desks to sit on so that they'd have a much better chance to learn ??
There is, in fact, a rather simple and smart way to make that wish come true for so many of those Grade School Kids in Africa that, right now, have to sit on the ground if they want to learn.
That rather simple way includes You, Your Town Mayor, this Web-Site, and
"K.I.N.D." - UNICEF's - 'Kids in Need of Desks' Project
( to provide Desks made in Africa for School Children in Africa )
Briefly, and as You may know, this Web-Site is all about America's Towns.
And, that not only means finding as many OLD photos from throughout the Decades of your Town from the Local Historical Society, City Hall and maybe, your Library, but it, also, means Photos taken of your Town as it is, Today.
This Web-Site wants to preserve and make accessable to everyone with just the click of a mouse, those Photos of America's HomeTowns - your Town - that portrays each Town - photos from your Town's 'Past', as well as, Photos of your Town of 'today'.
While you're at home for the summer, You can participate in making this happen. All You need is your digital camera, and a couple of hours of your time.
And, You'll be recognized for your participation. The Photos that You take will be viewed by your Town's Residents ( and the world ) not only of Today, but those of the Future, as well - 10, 25, 50, 100 years from now.
I am asking You, and each Student who is reading this brief overview of the Initiative to find it to be an interesting, a simple and fun way to participate in adding to your Town's and see if You might be interested, and then to also, send it on through your network of 'friends'.
Just as it is with the uniqueness of every State, every Town in each State, also, has its own unique History and Heritage. The Photos that You take of your Town will photographically preserve for your Town and for the Future some of that History and Heritage that is unique of your Town.
You will, also, be recognized for your participation with your Name, Name of your College, and the Names of your HomeTown and of your Town Mayor. You can see this "America's College Students - 'Students to Pupils' Recognition" Page by Clicking below.
